Radar Detector Alert System

WARNING:

IMPROPER INSTALLATION OF THIS SYSTEM CAN LEAD TO BODILY INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO YOUR MOTORCYCLE, RADAR DETECTOR, AND THE MOTOMOUNTS VISUAL & AUDIO ALERT SYSTEM. MOTOMOUNTS IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANY RESULTING DAMAGES.

IF YOU ARE NOT CONFIDENT WORKING WITH YOUR MOTORCYCLE’S 12V POWER SUPPLY, WE RECOMMEND HAVING A MECHANIC OR AUTO ELECTRICIAN INSTALL THIS SYSTEM.

THE PIEZO SIREN EXCEEDS 105 DB. KEEP IT AWAY FROM YOUR EARS DURING SETUP.

The LEDs in the Visual Alert are very bright, especially in the dark. This can be distracting and potentially hazardous if you're not used to the intensity. Before using the Visual Alert while riding, particularly at night, make sure to get accustomed to its brightness in a safe, controlled environment.

Bench-Test

Before installing the Radar Alert Module on your motorcycle, we will first bench-test it to ensure everything is functioning correctly

  1. Plug the 3.5mm AUX cable from the Alert Module into your radar detector audio port. (Make sure it goes all the way in)

  1. Ensure the 3-Position Toggle Switch is either on full volume or low volume setting. The switch has 3 settings as shown below.

FULL VOLUME- OFF- LOW VOLUME

  1. Ensure the PIEZO Beeper is facedown- It’s extremely loud!

  1. On the Radar Alert Module’s Power cable, put the red cable with the exposed cable onto the Positive (+) terminal of the battery.

  1. On the Radar Alert Module’s Power cable, put the black cable with the round eyelet connector onto the Negative (-) terminal of the battery. Once this is done the Radar Alert will beep loudly.

  1. Power on your radar detector and make sure the Radar Alert Module beeps. To do this, you can turn on the “Auto Test” feature on your radar detector. Power cycle the radar detector to ensure the Radar Alert Module beeps. If the radar does not trigger the Radar Alert Module we suggest going through the troubleshooting list on the last page of this manual.

  1. Remove the Radar Alert Module’s power cables from your motorcycle’s battery before continuing. (Remove Negative then positive).

If your radar detector has a “Voice On” mode, turn this to “Voice Off

Installation of the Radar Alert Module on your Motorcycle

After you have bench-tested the system and everything is functioning correctly it’s time to install the system onto your motorcycle.

  1. Ensure the Radar Alert Module’s power cable is disconnected from your motorcycle battery before continuing.

  1. Place the Radar Alert Module’s entire wiring loom beside the bike where you plan to mount each part to your motorcycle. Ensure you have plenty of cable slack for the LED Module & Piezo Beeper.

  1. Begin with mounting the Radar Alert Module. Depending on what sort of motorcycle you own we recommend mounting the module, either under the tank- at the front of the motorcycle, behind the headlight or behind the dash. Clean the surface, remove the 3M backing and mount the Alert Moulde with the cables facing down. Do not mount the module near any moving parts or near anything that gets hot when riding like the engine.

  1. Run the Radar Alert Module’s power cable down the inside of your motorcycle towards the fuse box location or 12v accessory plug. Use zip ties to secure the cables. Do not let the cables touch any parts of the motorcycle that move or near parts that get hot, such as the engine, radiator or exhaust system.

  1. Mount the Piezo Beeper around the front of your motorcycle. Either under your handlebars, on the handlebar stem or near your dash. Ensure the Piezo is horizontal to stop water from getting into the speaker.

  1. Mount the LED Module either on the top/side of your dash or on your windscreen depending on what sort of motorcycle you own. Make sure you can see the LEDs when they light up in your natural riding position.

  1. Mounting the Volume Switch. Route the switch to the left side of your handlebars. Remove the bolt that holds the clutch assembly to the handlebar. Place the Volume switch backet between the M6 nut and tighten. Reinstall the Volume Switch in the backet.

Powering the Radar Alert Module

We suggest powering the Radar Alert Module from your motorcycle’s ignition. This means when you turn your key your motorcycle ignition turns on and so will your Radar Alert Module. Putting the Alert Module straight onto your battery can slowly drain your battery if your motorcycle is left for months without use. To do this, follow the steps below.

  1. Locate your 12v accessory plug or if your motorcycle doesn’t have on, locate the fuse box. Find the fuse that is either for accessories, taillight or ignition. (Do not use anything important such as the ABS or traction control fuses). Once you have chosen the fuse you are going to splice into, we suggest checking the fuse circuit is on the ignition. Use a multimeter to determine this.

  1. Pop the fuse box up. Find the wires that go to the fuse you plan to use. Typically, the thinner cable on the bottom of the fuse you have chosen is the wire that has passed through the fuse. This is the wire we are going to splice onto. (Use a multimeter to confirm this).

  1. Place the quick splice connector around this cable. On the Alert system module positive + (Red) power supply wire. Snip the exposed wire, shown in the left image. Then place the cable into the splice connector shown in the Image on the right.

  1. Press the quick splice tab down until it pierces the cables and clicks closed. Give the wires a light tug to ensure they have been crimped properly. Apply some electric tape around the two wires.

  1. Depending where your fuse box is located on your motorcycle. Connect the Radar Alert Systems Negative – (Black) wire that has the eyelet connector to either the Negative battery terminal or to your motorcycles frame which will ground it.

Check over the wiring and ensure all wires are properly secured to your motorcycle.

Tips

  • Once your radar has detected a signal and you have reacted, we recommend muting the alert system. This will help you avoid drawing unnecessary attention to yourself.

  • When starting your motorcycle in a public area, we suggest setting the alert volume to low.

Troubleshooting

  1. Check the negative cable is grounded
  2. Check the splice on the positive cable is connected correctly
  3. Check your radars volume is on full
  4. Check the Radar Alert Module is getting power
  5. Check the inline fuse on the motorcycles ignition that you spliced into hasn’t blown
  6. Check the fuse in Radar Alert Module inline fuse holder hasn’t blown
  7. Check the Radar Alert Module volume switch is either on Full Volume or Low Volume
